The patient depicted here, presented with a large, cutaneous, maculopapular lesion on his chest, overlying his right pectoralis major muscle. This highly inflammatory, erosive lesion, was brought on by the patient having been bitten by a venomous snake known as a desert lancehead, Bothrops pictus, causing this reaction known as ophidism, or snake bite poisoning.
