These two photomicrographs off a side-by-side comparison of the cytoarchitectural changes seen in a patient with atrophic gastritis, and accompanying pernicious anemia on the left, with the appearance of a normal section of gastric mucosa on the right. Note the reduction in height of the glandular mucosa, and numbers of mucosal gastric glands.
