This 1975 image depicts a still life composed of two types of spot plates, used in a laboratory setting. The larger, 96-well plate, was composed of a plastic material, while the smaller, 12-well plate on the right, was a ceramic model. The larger plate is a disposable model, while the ceramic plate may be reused numerous times, after having been cleaned. Spot plates are used when conducting what are known as spot tests, which require a separation between multiple chemical reactions involving combined ingredients, and then recording the observed results of their chemical reactivity.
