Entitled, “NIOSH Study in Bolivia”, this image was captured by photographer Aaron Sussell, MPH CIH, with NIOSH, and depicts NIOSH Medical Officer, Mitchell Singal, collecting a dust sample in a worker’s home during a CDC (NCEH/NIOSH) study to assess community, and worker exposures to heavy metals related to a tin smelter in the industrial city of Oruro, Bolivia. One of the worker’s roosters looks on. The image earned Aaron a tie for the First Place award in the 2010 CDC Connects Annual Public Health in Action Photo Contest, in the category of “International Programs”.
