Entitled, “Safe Water in Malawi”, this image was captured by CDC Medical Officer in the Malaria Branch, Division of Parasitic Diseases, Manoj Menon, MD, MPH, and depicts a boy and his friend showing off a bottle of water, and a toy cell phone the boy had made out of dirt and seeds. Dr. Menon had taken the photo while interviewing households, as part of a safe water project in Salima, Malawi. The picture earned him a tie for the Second Place award in the 2009 CDC Connects’ Annual Public Health in Action Photo Contest, in the category of “International People”.
