Entitled, “International Emerging Infections Program”, this photo depicts a study in contrast between a worker standing amidst a pile of rubble, and his use of a high-tech mobile device, in order to perform population-based, active surveillance. The project was implemented by CDC’s International Emerging Infections Program in Kenya, while using local Kenyan staff. The photographer, Goal Team Leader for Healthy Healthcare Settings, Anant C. Shah, in CCID, earned a Third Place award in the 2008 CDC Connects Annual Public Health in Action Photo Contest, in the category of “International Programs”.
