Caption:
Under a magnification of 970X, this photomicrograph revealed ultrastructural details exhibited by a fruiting body, or conidial head, of the fungus, Aspergillus versicolor, which was located at the end of a smooth, filamentous conidiophore. Morphologically, the fruiting body resides atop a slender conidiophore that ends in a bulbous vesicle, which gives rise to biseriate metulae that are topped with small phialides. The phialides give rise to the spherical conidia, some of which had detached from their respective phialides.
