Entitled, “Rapid Health Assessments of Congolese Refugees”, this image was created by CDC Public Health Advisor, Michelle Russell, MPH. Led by CDC-Kenya, and the International Organization for Migration, CDC’s Refugee Health Program conducted rapid health assessments of Congolese refugees in Rwanda prior two settlement to the United States. In this photo, a girl from Gihembe Refugee Camp in Byumba, Rwanda, takes care of her sister, while her family completes their health assessment. This photo earned Michelle a tie for the Third Place award in the 2014 CDC Connects Annual Public Health in Action Photo Contest, in the category of “International Programs”.
