Caption:
Histochemically processed using acridine orange stain, this thioglycollate blood culture revealed the presence of orange-colored, dysgonic fermenter-2 (DF2) bacteria, amongst the numerous red blood cells (RBCs). A DF2 bacterium is an example of a slow-growing, fermentative bacillus, requiring carbon dioxide for its growth. This specimen was under a magnification of 630X.
