Caption:
Captured during the necropsy of a deceased Rhesus monkey, Macaca mulatta, this image revealed the appearance of the animal’s intestinal tract, in a case of shigellosis, a bacterial infection caused by the Gram-negative bacterium of the genus, Shigella. Important here, was the presence of the hemorrhagic colonic mucosa, and the edematous, bean-shaped mesenteric lymph nodes.
