This photograph depicts a bedridden child displaying his right hand and wrist, upon which you are able to see the characteristic macular rash of Rocky Mountain spotted fever (RMSF). The rash had developed due to this patient having been infected with the bacterium, Rickettsia rickettsii, which had been transmitted through the bite of an infected tick.
