Using a fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) conjugated immunoglobulin staining technique, and under direct immunofluorescence (DIF), this tissue sample extracted from a vesicle and ulcer, reveals the presence of herpes simplex antigen in a patient determined to have a herpes simplex virus type-2 (HSV-2) infection.
