This young Guatemalan boy was a victim of the disease onchocerciasis, more commonly referred to as, river blindness, which is caused by the parasitic worm Onchocerca volvulus. His squinting was caused by a photophobia, or his aversion to light, which is one of the early symptoms of this disease.
