This image depicts a close inferior view of a hamster’s tail region. This animal exhibited a cutaneous lesion on its posterior extremities, and perineum, which had been caused by the obligate intracellular protozoan, Leishmania braziliensis. See PHIL 18871 and 18874, for two additional views of this hamster’s condition.
