Caption:
This image depicts a close inferior view of a hamster’s head region. This animal exhibited a cutaneous lesion on its nose, which had been caused by the obligate intracellular protozoan, Leishmania braziliensis. Note, that though difficult to see in this image, the hamster's distal forelegs were also affected. See PHIL 18872 and 18874, for two additional views of this hamster’s condition.
