Under a magnification of 450X, this photomicrograph of a Grocott's methenamine silver-stained (GMS) specimen, revealed some of the histopathology found in a lung tissue sample extracted from a patient diagnosed with a case of actinomycosis, or mycetoma, caused by a Gram-positive, fungus-like aerobic bacterium, Propionibacterium propionicus, formerly known as Arachnia propionica.
