Caption:
This image depicts a close view of the neck region of a rat, Rattus rattus, captured during its necropsy. This rat had been infected by the coronavirus, sialodacryoadenitis virus (SDAV), commonly found in rats. Known to cause swelling of the salivary glands (arrowheads), which in this case, was quite evident. Note PHIL 18682, for a similar image, revealing uncharacteristically normal sized salivary glands, which had been revealed in another SDAV infected rat.
