Description: Caption:
This image depicts a close view of the neck region of a rat, Rattus rattus, captured during its necropsy. This rat had been infected by the coronavirus, sialodacryoadenitis virus (SDAV), commonly found in rats. Though known to cause swelling in the salivary glands (arrowheads), in this case, the glands were not swollen. Note PHIL 18683, for a similar image, revealing swollen, edematous salivary glands, which had been revealed in another SDAV infected rat.
