Under a magnification of 450X, this photomicrograph revealed some of the histopathologic changes that were exhibited by a hair shaft affected by an endothrix infection, caused by the dermatophytic fungus, Trichophyton violaceum. This specimen had been mounted using potassium hydroxide (KOH).
