This photograph, made available by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), depicted a close view of a dermatology patient’s face, revealing the presence of an ulcerated skin lesion on the nose, which was diagnosed as a case of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). These lesions have a tendency to arise from premalignant lesions known as actinic keratoses, and exhibit a surface that is scaly, and often ulcerated.
