This photograph, made available by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), depicts a view of a skin lesion known as a dysplastic nevus. The lesion exhibited what was termed a fried egg appearance, with an eccentrically placed papule. In a case like this, the diagnostic histologic features are found in the macular portion of the mole, particularly at its shoulder, where the papule meets the macule. Use of this image requires acknowledgement that NCI is the image source, as well as the inclusion of the website, www.cancer.gov.
