Caption: This photograph, made available by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), depicts a view of a skin lesion known as a dysplastic nevus. The lesion exhibited what was termed a fried egg appearance, with an eccentrically placed papule. In a case like this, the diagnostic histologic features are found in the macular portion of the mole, particularly at its shoulder, where the papule meets the macule.
