This photograph, made available by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), depicts a view of a skin lesion known as basal cell carcinoma. The papule was small, approximately 1.0cm, uniformly colored a red-brown, due to the presence of telangiectatic blood vessels, i.e., dilated arterioles in the skin, and exhibited a slight centralized depression. Sometimes these basal cell carcinomas are surrounded by a pearly, rolled border (see PHIL 18383 and 18386).
