This photograph, made available by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), depicts a close view of a dermatology patient’s skin surface, revealing the presence of a fairly symmetrical, small, smooth, shiny, pale, waxy lump, which was suspected of being a cancerous lesion. The black ring represented a line indicating the amount of tissue to be excised during a biopsy procedure.
