This image depicts the gross pathologic changes observed in a parasagittal section of a human right lung. This was a case of pulmonary coccidioidomycosis, due to the pathogenic fungus, Coccidioides immitis. Note the general pneumonitis, and caseous necrosis involving the middle, and lower lobes, as well as the hilar region.
