Produced by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), this photomicrograph of a mouse skin sample, which had been processed using a fluorescent antibody staining method, revealed numerous magenta-colored immune cells that had surrounded a hair follicle. Hair follicles are home to a diverse array of resident commensal bacteria, hence the presence of these immune system components.
