Caption:
This photomicrograph depicts an anterior view of a puss caterpillar, Megalopyge opercularis, an urticating, or hive producing caterpillar, that is actually a moth larva. Urticating caterpillars, like M. opercularis, produce an irritating urticaria on the human skin when fluid, which is contained within hair-like spines, comes into contact with the skin, as one brushes up against these creatures.
