Caption:
This is a photomicrograph of a specimen consisting of a sample extracted from a yaws lesion exudate, stained using a specific anti-treponemal fluorescein-labeled antibody, which revealed the characteristic corkscrew morphology exhibited by a number of Treponema pallidum subsp. pertenue bacterial spirochetes. The slide was being examined under ultraviolet light, and using a red filter.
