Placed side-by-side, for comparative purposes, these two anteroposterior (AP) chest x-rays of an infant’s chest cavity, which had been taken almost 3-months apart, revealed the progressive worsening of a condition known as rubella pneumonitis, as well as the onset of congestive heart failure. This infant had been born with congenital rubella. Note the increased radiopacity in the x-ray on the right, due to an accompanying increase in pulmonary infiltrates.
