Caption:
This image depicted a right lateral view of an African-American woman’s head. The patient presented with a case of cladosporiosis, or cerebral phaeohyphomycosis, caused by the dematiaceous fungal organism, Cladophialophora bantiana, formerly Cladosporium bantianum. In this view, the abscess, which had involved the brain, had eroded through the overlying right parietal region of her cranium and scalp. See PHIL 24692 through 24696, for views of this patient’s brain at the time of her autopsy. PHIL 24694, provides a view of this scalp lesion from a closer perspective.
