This is a photograph depicting an anterior view of a patient’s left lower leg, exhibiting this erythematous skin condition that was diagnosed as erysipelas. Note the blotchy appearance of the lesions, one of which had become deeply ulcerated. Erysipelas is a dermatologic condition, which involves the inoculation of the skin and subcutaneous tissue with A ß-hemolytic streptococci bacteria, causing edema, and bright red erythema of the affected areas.
