Depicted here, in this 1977 image, was American medical student, Bob Cannon, as he was examining a Lassa fever patient in Segbwema, Sierra Leone. At this particular point in the exam, Mr. Cannon was palpating the patient’s right lateral thorax. Note that during the examination, personal protective equipment (PPE) was worn, which included gloves and gown, a filtered breathing mask, and goggles.
