Caption:
This is a dorsal view of a granary weevil, Sitophilus granarius, whose allergens can cause a condition referred to as, millworkers asthma. See PHIL 6311, for a lateral view of this beetle. Granary weevils are often found as unwanted intruders in stored grain. When the grain is cleaned and milled, the insect’s allergens are still present, causing an allergic reaction in millworkers, who come into contacts with these products.
