This photograph depicts the torso of a man, who had been stung on his left hand, between the first and second knuckles by a red paper wasp, Polistes canadensis var. erythrocephalus. The man was an inhabitant of a region near Villa Neily, in southern Puntarenas, Costa Rica. This image was captured 6-hours after the patient was stung. Note the degree of swelling enveloping the dorsum of his left hand.
