The scalp of this Yugoslavian boy exhibited symptoms of a cutaneous fungal infection known as tinea capitis, which had infected his scalp, and hair follicles. Note the thinning of the hair, and powdery look exhibited by the scalp lesions, in the area of the infection. A fungal organism known as a dermatophyte caused this cutaneous illness.
