This 1972 photograph depicted a number of typical thatch roofed houses, that were located in Miragoâne, Haiti, one of the country’s oldest towns. Located on western Haiti’s coast, Miragoâne is the capital of the Nippes Department, and is a major shipping port specializing in used goods. The level of poverty is quite high, as can be seen in the living standards of these few townsfolk, where kerosene lamps and candles lighted their homes.
