This image depicts a close view of a female patient’s perineum, revealing the presence of a primary syphilitic chancre, which was located on the vulva, specifically on the right labium majorum. From this view the chancre appears to exhibit an inflamed, raw surface. This syphilitic infection was caused by the bacterial spirochete, Treponema pallidum.
