This image depicts a close view of a male patient’s penis, highlighting the glans and prepuce from a left lateral perspective, revealing the presence of what had been a primary syphilitic lesion on the preputial skin. After having undergone 2-weeks of therapeutic treatment, you will note that this chancre had begun to heal, and was now covered by a brown scab with rolled edges. Syphilis is caused by the bacterial spirochete, Treponema pallidum.
