Description: | This is the twenty-fourth in a series of images, PHIL 16989 through 17013, depicting a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Public Health Library and Information Center (PHLIC) exhibit entitled, “Bringing the World Home: CDC’s Returned Peace Corps Volunteers Celebrate Peace Corps Week 02/23/14 – 03/01/14”. This display contained two volumes of a quarterly publication entitled, “GringoGrita”, that had been written and published by Peace Corps Volunteers in order to share their comical and informative stories of life as a volunteer in the Dominican Republic. These magazines had been donated by RPCV, Lisa Guerrero, and acquired during her Volunteer work from 2005 – 2007, in the Dominican Republic. In honor of Peace Corps Week, from February 23rd-March 1st 2014 the Public Health Library and Information Center (PHLIC) hosted a display of artifacts from some of the over 200 Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs) who are now employed at the CDC. The exhibit was supported by the CDC/ATSDR Peace Corps Work Group (proposed), and was designed to support the Third Goal of the Peace Corps, which strives to bring the culture of countries served back home to the United States. If you are a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer or Staff, and would like to be added to the CDC/ATSDR Peace Corps Work Group (proposed), please send an email to cdcrpcv@cdc.gov. |
