|Description:||This is the twentieth in a series of images, PHIL 16989 through 17013, depicting a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Public Health Library and Information Center (PHLIC) exhibit entitled, “Bringing the World Home: CDC’s Returned Peace Corps Volunteers Celebrate Peace Corps Week 02/23/14 – 03/01/14”. This hand carved decorative mask had been crafted in the West African state of Ghana, and was acquired by RPCV, Aimee Schattner. Ms, Schattner’s Peace Corps Volunteer tour took her to Kenya from 2002 – 2005. This circular mask incorporated a technique of wood and bead inlay.|
In honor of Peace Corps Week, from February 23rd-March 1st 2014 the Public Health Library and Information Center (PHLIC) hosted a display of artifacts from some of the over 200 Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs) who are now employed at the CDC. The exhibit was supported by the CDC/ATSDR Peace Corps Work Group (proposed), and was designed to support the Third Goal of the Peace Corps, which strives to bring the culture of countries served back home to the United States.
