Caption:
Processed using a flagella-enhancing stain, this photograph reveals some of the ultrastructural morphology displayed by Gram-negative, Burkholderia pseudomallei bacteria, which would be invisible using other, more commonly used techniques. The phenomenon involves using staining constituents that coat the frail, diaphanous flagella, eventually thickening the flagella until they become visible.
