Under a low magnification, this photomicrograph of a hematoxylin-eosin (H&E)-stained tissue specimen, revealed the presence of a sclerotium, which is a walled-off granule of hardened fungal components containing food reserves. This chronic inflammatory response is otherwise known as granulomatous inflammation. The specimen was extracted from a patient with a case of pseudallescheriasis due to the fungal organism, Pseudallescheria boydii>, which was formerly referred to as, Allescheria boydii.
