This laboratorian was in the process of labeling a number of test tubes, each containing a prepared mosquito suspension, containing the remnants of field-captured mosquitoes that had been pulverized, and mixed with the requisite diluent. The mosquito suspension is created when pulverized mosquitoes, suspected of carrying a viral pathogen, are then added to a diluent. The suspension is then injected intracranially into the mice. Later the mouse brain tissue would be tested for the presence of the virus, using the indirect fluorescent antibody (IFA) test, then observed under microscopic examination.
