This patient is demonstrating the effects of a condition known as crab yaws, on the palm of his right hand. See PHIL 3831, for a view of this same patient's left foot showing symptoms of this disease as well, and PHIL 3829, for another view of his hand. Crab yaws is characterized by hyperkeratosis with fissuring, and ulceration of the soles of the feet, and less commonly, as was the case here, involves the palms of the hands.
