Caption:
This 1968 photograph depicts the face of an infant, highlighting a right periorbital smallpox vaccinial infection after this baby had received a smallpox vaccination. You’re able to see the healed vaccinial lesions on the infant’s upper, and lower right eyelids. Inadvertent inoculation usually results from auto-inoculation of vaccine virus, transferred from the vaccination site. For additional views of this infant’s affected eye, see PHIL 3217, 3234, 3340, 3341, 3342, 3343, 3344, 13313, and 13314.
