Photographed from the patient’s left side, this image depicts the lower extremities of an individual, who had exhibited papulosquamous lesions of the left ankle, and deformities to the leg bones, or sabre tibia. These symptoms had been due to a yaws infection, also known as frambesia tropica, caused by the spirochete bacterium Treponema pallidum subsp. pertenue.
