This photomicrograph of a Gram-stained vaginal smear specimen, revealed the presence of numerous bacterial flora normally found in the vaginal environment. Included in the smear were numerous Gram-positive, lactobacilli, as well as numbers of smaller, Gram-negative, pink-stained bacilli. Vaginal epithelial cells were also present, having been sloughed off during the smear extraction process.
