This photomicrograph of a kidney tissue sample, taken from a leprosy, or Hansen’s disease patient, revealed histopathologic changes indicative of what is known as renal amyloidosis, which involves the deposition of protein aggregates in the form of an amorphous, acellular, eosinophilic material known as amyloid.
