Caption:
This image depicted an intraoperative view of a surgical procedure involving the removal of an ectopic pregnancy. This means that the implantation of the fertilized egg took place outside the confines of the uterine lumen. Normally, after fertilization, the zygote implants itself in the thickened endometrial lining of the uterus, where it is nourished, as it develops into an embryo.
