Caption:
These two slant culture test tubes highlight the nicotinic acid nutritional requirement of the fungal organism, Trichophyton equinum. The test tube on the left contained a casein-rich growth medium, while the one on the right contained a casein-rich growth medium, to which nicotinic acid had also been added. Both cultures had been inoculated with T. equinum. Note the tube containing the nicotinic acid had given rise to a colony of T. equinum fungal organisms, with no growth occurring in the left tube.
