This image depicts a close view of the protruding tongue of a patient, who had presented to a clinical setting with what was diagnosed a case of geographic tongue, also known as benign migratory glossitis (BMG), consisting of a mucous membrane inflammatory condition of the tongue’s dorsal surface. Causes are speculative, and include stress, dietary constituents, possible genetic components, and environmental sensitivities.
